So you’ve had your color analysis and now you’re home with a lot of new information. You might be asking yourself: Okay… now what?
As a color analyst working with clients here in Chaska, Minnesota, this is what I recommend after every color analysis session to help you use your color season in real life.
The fastest and most noticeable update you can make is swapping out your makeup.
Using what we learned about your undertone and your season, take a look at your digital guide and compare it to what you already own. Sort through your makeup and identify what still works well for you. Focus on wearing the colors that match your season, pay attention to how they look on you.
Next, notice what’s missing or what feels off now that you know your season. Add those items to a short shopping list. Your digital guide includes specific product recommendations for your season, so you can always reference those to make shopping easier.
Once makeup is underway, move on to your wardrobe.
Using your color swatch fan, hold it up to your clothing and see what harmonizes with your season. If you can, do this during the day next to a window. When a color harmonizes, it blends easily and looks good alongside all the colors in your fan.
As you go, group your clothes into:
This is also an excellent time to declutter and simplify your wardrobe. If there are pieces you’re not wearing anyway, set them aside to donate or consign. Color analysis often makes letting go easier because you finally understand why certain items never felt quite right.

Now that your clothes are grouped, start creating outfits using your best and next-best pieces.
Wear them regularly and pay attention to what you notice. Are you suddenly receiving more compliments and feeling more confident? I hope so!
You’ll realize quickly what you want to add to your closet: more neutrals from your season, a layering piece, or a top in one of your strongest colors. Let your wardrobe guide what you add next instead of shopping randomly. I’ve been tempted to buy things that I kind of like because they are the right color, you should love what you buy!
Hair color makes a big difference since it frames your face.
At your next salon visit, keep your color season, undertone, and natural contrast level in mind. Here are some tips to consider:
Accessories are the least urgent items to update. Jewelry, belts, shoes, and sunglasses can all be swapped out slowly over time.
The exception is glasses.
If you wear glasses, your frames matter because they sit right on your face. When choosing frames, start with your best metals. If you’re a Spring or Autumn, gold-toned frames usually work best. If you’re a Summer or Winter, look for silver-toned options.
Next, consider the neutrals and best colors in your season. Your digital guide includes specific recommendations to make this process easier and give you inspiration.
If you need proof that glasses can make a big difference, check out my Instagram post where I show just how impactful the right frames can be.
Now that you’ve gone through makeup, wardrobe, hair, and accessories, here’s a quick recap to help you put all of your color season recommendations into action:
